The world is changing fast. Very fast. Kodak and Nokia couldn't anticipate their immediate future. Artificial Intelligence will take away all the linear thinking white collared jobs like doctors, lawyers and CAs. India's demographic dividend is a boon for employers; curse for our kids. In 10 years, India will have the largest number of graduates the world has ever seen. Education inflation employers are expecting more educated for the same jobs and same salaries. Graduation does not Guarantee jobs We see a lot of Engineers and PhD's applying for peon and sweepers jobs when Government calls. There are many Ola drivers who are graduates. Jobs do not guarantee stability In future, it will just be the gig economy powered by block chains.
Today's kids have a lot of screen sense, little common sense and minimal day to day thinking skills. Their ability to "do" is absent. They have limited exposure to the multitude of facets of the world. And, they do not get opportunity, environment, and support to explore their innate multiple intelligence. All this is compounded by over parenting. This is dis-empowering.
Syllabus and curriculum introduce more problems. Schools were invented during industrial revolution as a factory to create workers for the factories being setup. So, the emphasis of school system is to skill kids to give “one correct answer” to each question; very unlike real life. Many basic topics like LCM, NaCl, (a+b)2 are not used in daily life. Syllabus is un-relatable. Rote is the only way out. When kids pass out of school, they have to choose a stream mostly based on “what they are not good at”.
Parents send kids to school & expect kids will be ready for future. Where as schools are fighting a different battle in helping kids get great grades. Grades mattered before. Not any more.
